Our Fundraising Heroes walked, ran and took to the stage to raise vital funds and awareness in April.

Stepping up to the challenge

Ian took part in Glasgow’s Kiltwalk, walking the Mighty Stride route of 22.7 miles from Glasgow Green to the village of Balloch on the shore of Loch Lomond.

We also had two separate fundraisers take on the West Highland Way in aid of us. The iconic 96 mile route goes from Milngavie to Fort William, with Paul walking in honour of his mum who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s dementia in 2022, and young fundraiser Alice walking with her family for her grandmother, who lives with Parkinson’s.

Footsteps nursery have raised over £10,400 for us since January through a variety of challenges including sponsored walks with the nursery children in their local area, and more recently a staff sponsored hike up Mam Tor and Kinder Scout in the Peak District.

And Huw set off on his epic John O’Groats to Lands End walk. Huw chose to tackle this incredible challenge as his twin brother, Tom, has lived with Parkinson’s for over 15 years, and he has already raised over £7,600 in support of our research. Huw will be walking the length of the country in around three and a half months, and has been tracking his progress on his dedicated Instagram page @huw_walks_for_parkinsons.

Supporters getting their steps in:

Running for research

Supporter Christine fundraised for us at her local Parkrun, encouraging friends and family to run, jog or walk the 5km route and make a donation.

Meanwhile Alex completed his epic Devon coast to coast ultramarathon, raising a phenomenal £13,500 in support of our research! Alex was supported by family, friends and strangers cheering him on as he ran the 112 mile route through Dartmoor and Exmoor.

And supporter Gill ran the Blackpool Half Marathon in memory of her dad. Gill said: “I ran all the way and finished in one piece. I had a photo of my late Dad on my back so that he would ‘have my back’ during the race. I had a great day, and my supporters were easy to spot wearing their Cure Parkinson’s tops!”

Our runners:

Parkinson’s in the spotlight

Georgina organised for her amateur drama club, the Putney Light Operatic Society, to raise funds for us with their stage production of The Vicar of Dibley. Considering our patron Paul Mayhew-Archer co-wrote the original series, Georgina, the cast and crew all thought it was a fitting way to help raise funds and awareness.
