October Walking Challenge raises over £63k for Cure Parkinson’s
Our amazing supporters challenged themselves to walk 100km throughout the month of October to raise vital funds for Parkinson’s research.
Over the past couple of years we’ve organised virtual walking challenges on Facebook to unite new and existing supporters across the UK and beyond.
This October our 100km Walking Challenge returned, and 149 avid fundraisers collectively raised a staggering £63,574 in support of our research – the largest amount raised from one of our Facebook challenges to date!
Participants were encouraged to walk 100km (or set their own distance) in October, getting out and about come rain or shine, and received a free limited edition challenge t-shirt when they signed up.
Over 1,000 members joined the challenge Facebook group where they could share updates about their progress, photos from their walks and personal reasons for taking part.
One participant, 90-year-old Joyce Cook, encouraged her whole family to get involved, with the 19-strong Cook family walking a combined 2,932km in total! To celebrate reaching the end of the challenge the family invited The Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire (and Cure Parkinson’s patron) Robert Voss CBE CStJ to help cheer Joyce on as she walked the final few steps too.
Cure Parkinson’s is hugely grateful to everyone who joined the Facebook group, set up a fundraiser, donated or helped spread the word about our vital research.
