Cure Parkinson’s Fundraising Heroes: February 2025

One supporter has chosen Cure Parkinson’s to be her local golf club’s Charity of the Year, with some tee-rrific fundraising events planned for 2025.
Supporter Cathy is a Captain of Harewood Downs Golf Club, based in Buckinghamshire, and picked Cure Parkinson’s to be a beneficiary of the club’s fundraising ventures after a dear friend was diagnosed with the progressive neurological condition.
Cathy (pictured right, and Janis left) said: “I have chosen Cure Parkinson’s because one of my oldest and closest friends, Janis, was diagnosed with this terrible condition over a year ago. I have known Janis for about 40 years, when we joined British Caledonian Airways and both flew together as air hostesses. As we all know, there is no cure for Parkinson’s yet and I would really like to help to make a difference by raising money for this extremely worthwhile charity.”
Fundraising for a cause close to her heart, Cathy was keen to get started and in February hosted a hugely successful bridge drive. Guests were served a delightful afternoon tea (featuring cakes baked by the golf club’s members) and had the chance to win some lovely prizes in a raffle. The bridge drive helped to raise over £1,500 in support of our vital research, too!
Future events Cathy has planned include a Spring Tea in April, a Lady Captain’s Day in July, a Gala Day for August, and a dinner in October. With Janis’ help Cathy is also organising another raffle featuring some incredible prizes, including a champagne afternoon tea for two at the Dorchester.
It looks like it’s going to be a great year for fundraising at the golf club, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to Cathy for her incredible support!
