The UK PD-CSG has been established to provide a platform for collaboration and conversation among Parkinson’s researchers, clinicians, healthcare professionals, and people with Parkinson’s.
About the study
This initiative, chaired by Professor Oliver Bandmann at the University of Sheffield, provides support for upcoming and existing Parkinson’s research initiatives in the UK. The group now includes over 100 members from all 18 regions of the UK. The UK PD-CSG hopes to help accelerate the pipeline from preclinical to clinical trials by supporting initiatives such as providing training programs for clinicians wanting to become principal investigators (PIs) and assisting in patient recruitment for established trials; this is alongside helping to ensure patient involvement in all stages of trial design.
The concept of a CSG for Parkinson’s is not novel; multiple countries have set precedents, including the United States and France. Their successes lend hope to clinicians for creating a similar impact in the UK. Therefore, Cure Parkinson’s is eager to assist with the creation and maintenance of the UK PD-CSG by providing funding towards their administrative support, training for research staff, and website upkeep.
