Quarterly Research Grant Funding Programme
This programme funds preclinical and clinical research focused on slowing, stopping, or reversing Parkinson’s. We do not fund research which is directed at symptomatic relief.
Our funding remit
For preclinical research, we fund grants up to £250,000 (GBP) and prioritise projects that are likely to lead to clinical trials in people with Parkinson’s within 5 years. For clinical research, we fund clinical trials and sub-studies of trials in people with Parkinson’s. The grant amount is flexible, so please contact us ahead of submission if you are thinking of applying for a clinical trial.
Our full Research Strategy provides more information on the types of research we fund, our funding priorities and how we provide funding.
Eligibility
The majority of Cure Parkinson’s funding comes from the Parkinson’s community and supporters, and we are mindful of careful stewardship of their donations.
We fund internationally and accept applications from academics and commercial entities. However, the costs in commercial applications should be justified and equivalent to academic costs where possible. All applicants must also comply with our grant terms and conditions outlined in the grant contract.
Geopolitical, economic and trade restrictions and sanctions may affect our ability to accept applications. As an AMRC member charity, we refer to the economic sanctions list Financial sanctions guidance for charities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – GOV.UK and the Trusted Research guidance Trusted Research | NPSA.
If you have any questions regarding eligibility or our funding remit, please review the applicant guidance below or email us at research@cureparkinsons.org.uk.
Two-stage application process:

How to apply for funding
Stage 1 applications should be submitted via email to research@cureparkinsons.org.uk.
All stage 1 application documents can be accessed below, including:
- Stage 1 Application form
- Drug and Compound CV (if applicable)
- Commercial Entity form (if applicable)
Additional documents that can be included at this stage, but are not mandatory and should be provided in their own format are:
- Principal investigator/Co-investigator CVs
- Budget breakdown
- Supplementary documents to support the application (e.g. protocols, publications). Application appendices involving further supporting data and figures are permitted but must be a maximum of 3 pages.
Following the initial Research Committee review of stage 1 applications, successful applicants will be invited to submit a stage 2 application on an individual basis and provided with the necessary documents via email.
The application process
If the proposed project falls within Cure Parkinson’s scope for funding, it will be considered by our independent research committee, which meets on a quarterly basis.
At each meeting, the committee will discuss Stage 1 Applications and decide whether they should be evaluated further. If they decide that an application should be considered for funding, the applicant will be invited to submit a full application (Stage 2) and subsequently will be sent for external peer review. The feedback from the expert reviews will be discussed at the next research committee meeting, and a recommendation on whether to fund the project will be made for the Cure Parkinson’s trustees to consider. For successful applications, the process takes approximately six months.
All successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by the chair of the research committee and/or suitable Cure Parkinson’s representative.
Please review the guidance for applicants’ documents below for more information about eligibility and eligible costs, and the application and review process. If you have any questions regarding our funding remit, application process or subsequent work with successful applicants, please email the Research Team. Thank you.
