The Ricky Road Run goes virtual for 2020!
From Friday 17 July – Monday 3 August, 30 running enthusiasts took part in the ‘virtual’ Ricky Road Run in support of Cure Parkinson’s pioneering Parkinson’s research.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, the Ricky Road Run which takes place annually around Rickmansworth and Chorleywood in Hertfordshire went virtual for 2020, allowing participants to complete the 10 mile race from their own local area. All at Cure Parkinson’s would like to thank those who participated in this year’s virtual event, including supporter Sharon Dawson (pictured below) who completed the running challenge around her local area in Leicestershire.
A small group of supporters (pictured below) led by Cure Parkinson’s fundraising ambassador Sean Brew also took part in the virtual race around Chorleywood Common in Hertfordshire. Determined to raise vital funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research, the group, including Cure Parkinson’s CEO Will Cook, spread out across the common on Sunday 2 August to take on their own, socially-distanced version of the 10 mile race completing the challenge in three hours. Sean Brew said:
What an amazing day! Our team was socially-distanced and spread throughout the Common, running and supporting each other in the glorious sunshine across the paths and rolling grassland of Chorleywood. We raised not only some money for the charity, but also awareness of its cause among dozens of other dog-walkers, runners and members of the public on the Common that day.
Will Cook added:
This was certainly ‘Not the Ricky Road Run’ – not in Rickmansworth, not on roads, and you didn’t even need to run. Neither the M25 nor the iconic A404 were even in sight. But, even so, we all had a lot of fun. Huge thanks to all who took part and supported. Roll on next time!
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s virtual event! We are hugely grateful for your brilliant fundraising efforts helping to support our ground-breaking research into a cure for Parkinson’s.
