Theme: Career advice – Senior PI Panellist Session

In this career advice themed 3P session as we are joined by Dr Malú Tansey (Professor Department of Neuroscience and Centre director for Translation Research in Neurodegenerative Disease at University of Florida), Dr Laura Volpicelli-Daley (Assistant professor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham) and Dr Michael Henderson (Assistant professor at Van Andel Institute).

During this special edition 3P session we are joined by three PI’s at different stages in their career. First is Dr Malú Tansey, now Director for the Translation Research in Neurodegenerative Disease at University of Florida. She talks about her interesting career path (academia to biotech and back) leading to her current position. Dr Laura Volpicelli-Daley, assistant professor at UAB, discusses the path that lead to her current position, hoping to motivate early career scientists by letting them know that many run into difficulties along their career path, but if you love what you do, persevere! Dr Michael Henderson accepted an assistant professor position at Van Andel Institute gives a fresh and raw perspective on the job search. Our panellists discuss shattering the glass ceiling, exceeding other’s and your own expectations and struggles with balancing family life with a demanding career.
